Privateer
Day: Established in 1726,
Fells Point is Baltimores original deepwater port,
and this second annual event pays tribute to the history and derring-do
of its brave privateers, who helped the American navy fight off
the British in the War of 1812. Charming stone streets, beautifully
preserved 18th- and 19th-century buildings and a vibrant working
waterfront, complete with big red tugs, will set the scene for
a day filled with family-friendly activities... and a night that
re-creates the storied past of Fells Points rich (and sometimes
seedy) history. Visitors
are encouraged to dress as a privateer, pirate, sail-maker, sailor,
barkeep, wench, merchant or homemaker whoever they think they
would have been 200 years ago, and in good maritime tradition,
events go on, rain or shine, along the waterfront at Thames Street
and Broadway.
