"It is probably not often that you receive a picture of someone’s wife with another man sailing aboard your boat. At least, not one that the husband is happy about, but I should explain.
My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary on March 18th, 2010. Due to several circumstances, we were not able to go away to celebrate the special landmark in our marriage. So, as the months rolled on, I kept an eye out for something special that my wife and I could enjoy. One day, while at work, I was watching a youtube clip from the movie “Wedding Crashers” and happened to find out that a scene was filmed in Maryland. As it intrigued me, I did more searching and it led me to your web site. With that being said, I saw an advertisement on the calendar of events for a brunch cruise with Ernie Halter. Now, I will be honest, I am pretty knowledgeable about music, but I had not heard of Ernie. But I also noticed the name “Tony Lucca”. With that said, my wife is a huge Tony Lucca fan. She listens to Tony’s music all the time and can tell you about his short run tv show, his Mickey Mouse Club days, his Justin Timberlake tequila commercial, etc… So anyway, I saw the name and immediately jumped at the chance to get two tickets for us both. I went home that day and told her we were going to go away on a Sunday and started giving her clues to what we were doing. Needless to say, a few minutes later (as my clues were lousy so I just pulled up your website) she was beyond excited. However, she had never been on a boat like this before and was a bit nervous. However, the idea of seeing Tony Lucca only helped her quickly overcome her nervousness.
Now, fast forward to that morning of the brunch. We leave Hagerstown MD for a nice car ride down to Annapolis. As we get closer, the rain drops start. And the closer we got the rain drops got bigger and faster. We pull into the parking lot next to the hotel and as it pours down rain, we just know the day is going to be cancelled. Although she tried to put on her best smile, I could tell that inside she was upset about the day being ruined. But we decided to hang around a bit and see what happened. As we waited around, we see the boat and Tony and Ernie along with the crew hanging out. So we figure this is our best glimpse of the day. Then something magical happened, the rain stopped. As we boarded the boat, the sun peaked through. Then, we start our journey off into the horizon, and the sun breaks free of the grey, and we begin with the most wonderful day.
That day was beyond perfect, as not only did we get to see the performance of a lifetime (and trust me, I have been to enough concerts in my life to say that this was by far extremely special – even surpassing my several Dave Matthews shows, Pink Floyd at the old RFK, second row for Chicago, and 10 feet away from Jason Mraz in a Border’s book store performance). But something even more wonderful happened, what a wonderful day on the water. The crew was awesome, the food was delicious, and the scenery was beyond breath taking. We could not have asked for a more wonderful day. At the end of our day, Tony took the time to have his picture taken with my wife and this still is something that when I look at it, even though I could not provide her with a week away on a little island, I was able to make a day of special memories with your help.
I have for sometime wanted to send this note as a thank you, and when I saw the Facebook post, I just had to stop everything I was doing to send this. Again, thanks for wonderful memories, and I look forward to coming back again in 2011."

"I took this photo at the 2010 Annapolis Sailboat Show; what a gorgeous day! A sail on your schooner is always the high point of my annual trip to the show. This has become my favorite screensaver so I can feel like I'm out on the water even while I'm at work. Thanks!" |

"With "Pride of Baltimore" barring down astern, the 127 nautical mile Great Chesapeake Schooner Race began in a persistent rain. The skippers Kaye, dedicated to the service of the crew, inspired exceptional performance, maintaining the lead well into the night, challenged by speeds up to 15.9 knots. Yes, as the judges noted Woodwind is the competitor to best. Those privileged to be aboard, inspired by the Kaye's, became the crew to best. Hooray for Woodwind's top performance." |

"My wife and I enjoyed the 4th of July Fireworks cruise on the Woodwind II - the fireworks were great and the day on the Chesapeake was beautiful with a nice wind in our sails. We enjoyed trying to keep up with the Carnival Pride as it sailed out of Baltimore and passed under the Bay Bridge, and Captain Ken even gave me the helm for awhile. We also liked the balladeers, who entertained us with songs and interesting stories during the sailing. Captain Jen was on the Woodwind, and we passed her several times during our cruise. A very enjoyable day, and we're sure to come back again in 2011 for some more special event cruises on the Woodwind and Woodwind II." |

"My husband, Dave, brings his work team from VA out for a day in Annapolis every summer. This June, we took them out on the Schooner Woodwind. Everyone had a blast! Thanks for the great Annapolis experience!" |
George Pappafotis
"This is my computer screen saver. Clean and simple lines, ship shape, and a challenge ahead! How are we going to get under that bridge? No people in view. This is the heart of Woodwind II. The absence of humans indicates the heart of the vessel, as she seems to sail herself. The clouds are either a storm brewing or a storm pasing. Either way, Woodwind II is ready for the challenge of the storm or ready to soak in a sun drenched sail in calm water." |

"My wife and I were participating in a user conference on May 21, 2010 at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel, which ended aboard the Schooners Woodwind and Woodwind II. I cannot think of any better way to end the conference and the day than by sailing into the sunset. This was my first time my wife has been sailing, and I did not know if she would like it. After a great time aboard the Schooner Woodwind, she is now a converted land lover." |

| "Capt Ken on the Woodwind during the Parade of Sail..the Prelude to the Great Chesapeake Schooner Race 2010. It was a beautiful afternoon for a sail and a lovely sunset! The perfect beginning for the adventure that followed in the next 36 hours!" |
"This was taken just after the start of the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race, Oct 14, 2010. The Woodwind was first over the starting line with the Pride of Baltimore II not far behind. Capt.Jen was at the wheel and Rai Muhlbauer on the Main. Try as she might, it would take the Pride of Baltimore II well into the night to get passed the Woodwind and her awesome crew! Thanks to Ken, Jen and the rest of the Woodwind Crew for an adventure to remember!" |

"On Wednesday, September 23 we were holding 5.5 - 6 kts of speed when Woodwind and her crew came blasting up and overtook us like we were standing still. You sure you didn't have your engine on?
We've sailed on Woodwind & Madeline (Newport, RI) and even though we have our own sailboat we still get a rush to go out on such a great sailing vessel....... Woodwind is an icon of the Chesapeake." |

"It was a perfect evening to enjoy sailing on the Chesapeake Bay on August 29th. I am reminded of the song, The Secret of Life by James Taylor. Yes, indeed the Schooner Woodward is a lovely ride!!!
"The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time
Any fool can do it
There ain't nothing to it
Nobody knows how we got to
The top of the hill
But since we're on our way down
We might as well enjoy the ride
Now the thing about time is that time
Isn't really real
It's just your point of view
How does it feel for you
Einstein said he could never understand it all
Planets spinning through space
The smile upon your face
Welcome to the human race
Isn't it a lovely ride
Sliding down
Gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride"
James Taylor"

"We had the most amazing experience on our Sunset Cruise on Monday, August 2nd! I've never been sailing, so the experience exceeded my expectations. The crew knew how to have a fun time and the onboard "wench" also brought some good laughs throughout the evening. We especially liked the education on "fan" sign language. I would recommend the experience to anyone going near Annapolis, it is worth every cent! We traveled from Las Vegas, NV and were staying in D.C. for a few nights after attending a wedding. We made the trip out to Annapolis specifically to eat some fresh blue crabs and go on the sunset cruise. Thank you for making it a night to remember!"

"Capt’n Jen and the crew are the best. Actually, I think Jen tells the Navy when and where to fly so guests have great photo opportunities. Grab your honey. Call in sick. This Blue Angels Practice Cruise and Performance Day Cruise is definitely a “must do before you die” trip!" |

"I had a fantastic time on the Woodwind, it was my first time sailing and it needless to say I had a blast! The storm we passed through may have been a little too much to handle for a first timer, but I know next time I'm down in Annapolis, MD I will be taking another sail on the woodwind! And yes!, I do still have my frequent sailor card!" |

"My husband and I bring a different "Woodwind Virgin Couple" out sailing in the evening with you all every year. At first, my husband, a native of NY City had never gone sailing and Skipper Ken gave him the helm on his birthday a few years ago and he has been a WOODWIND fan ever since. Recently we came down to Pusser's and had lunch then sat for hours and watched the comings and going of the harbor and your two schooners from the benches in the shade with the breeze blowing by the Hilton. (My favorite spot in all of Annapolis). Here are some photos I took that day to share with you. You all and your crew and schooners are a great asset to our community. Thanks for being here."

"My wife and I celebrated our anniversary (May 19) by booking passage on Woodwind II for the July 11 Lighthouse Cruise. It was two months after the fact, but well worth the wait. The weather was absolutely perfect, although the wind was a bit light, however it made for a nice steady platform while taking pictures. The close up views of historic Thomas Point Light and Bloody Point Light are awe inspiring. And the friendly cordial manner of the crew was as refreshing as the gentle sea breeze. Be sure to give our sincere appreciation to Captain Ken, Leslie, Ben and Rena."

"Our first trip on Schooner Woodwind was terrific! We sailed on the 2nd cruise of 2010, April 17, 2010 on the 3:00 sail with 3 other friends, one from Asheboro, NC, one from Baltimore, and one who now lives in Annapolis. It was a sunny day but quite cold and very windy - which made the sailing great! The offer to take the helm was right up my husband's alley - he was a sea captain in another life I think. He had a great time at the wheel, we all had a great time on the sail, and we are already talking about our next trip to Annapolis, and our next sail on Schooner Woodwind." |

"This was my maiden voyage EVER on a sailboat. It was my Birthday Evening at 56. I went alone, with just my camera. This is one of my many favorites photographs captured on that July 9,2009 Sunset cruise. I fell in love with sailing that evening and It has been a part of me ever since. I have taken sailing Classes , formal & private all summer & fall. I Spent 5 days at the Annapolis Boat show from dawn till dusk, Loving every minute and absorbing all the information. In Fact! I now own my own Sailboat. I just just bought a 48 ft Cheoy Lee Offshore Sloop, as alive aboard novice and will continue to learn to sail & explore the Bay. You guys made me fall in love with sailing with the beauty of your Woodwind cruises. RAH..... RAHHH...RAH!!!! I have had many family groups AND FRIENDS join you since my eve. this summer, to experience the Woodwind Sails....All have been thrilled with the views and power of the ride! "We planned an Annapolis trip last April
for some of our out-of-town friends. The Woodwind is one of
our favorite Annapolis activities, so although it had been
pouring all day, we all opted to follow-through with our plans
to go for a sail and enjoyed several of the delicious micro-brew
varieties on board! We had an amazing time and still laugh
about how it was actually really memorable because of the
weather."

between the two years ---
2006 no wind at the start; 2007 plenty of wind for the whole
race which allowed most everyone to set new course records." |

"We just wanted to drop and note and
thank you for our wonderful sailing cruise on Saturday.
We had traveled to the D.C. area with the intent of showing
our children the normal historical monuments and sites.
Our day in Annapolis was sort of an after-thought, but became
the high-light of our entire trip after sailing on the Woodwind.
We truly enjoyed ourselves and our memory of the day will
stay with us for the rest of our lives. Thanks so much.

The Winner for last year's
Photo Contest is.. 2004
Matthew
Parker of DC. He sent the collage to us with
the following message: "My photo collage is taken over
one hour from 6:27 pm till 7:20 pm. I wanted to capture
the feeling Lea Alice and I had for that time period termed,
"ghosting." The photo collage captures the whole
boat, the sail, the passengers and the Captain, from bow
to stern following the path of the sun setting on the horizon
behind Captain Ken. The photo collage is interesting because
it really captures what a person could see on a sunset cruise
from a 180 degree angle of the boat to a 180 degree view
of the horizon."
