Graduation time of year

We sailed  the 1:30 sail with 47 pax. The winds were from the south at 8-10 knots. We put up all 4 sails and headed out to the bay and then down to the bay bridge. We made it fairly close before we reached the mid point of the sail and had to turn back. […]

Sunny Skies

Today was a delightful day on the water.  We had sunny skies and a building southerly.  The Brownies, on the first trip, were well behaved and attentive and enthusiastic.   The rest of the passengers were with me in the cockpit.  This worked out well, providing these passengers a chance to steer and for me to […]

USS Gettysburg visits Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay

USS Gettysburg

With great breeze and awesome seas  we had 4 wonderful sails today. The boat was completely booked all day . We sailed out and around the USS Gettysburg, down to the bay bridge and back. On our evening sail we had several midshipmen that are graduating Tuesday along with their families. We had lots of volunteer […]

Schooner Games

It was a busy day in Annapolis today, Memorial weekend and Commissioning week.  Woodwind II sailed with several Midshipmen due to graduate this Tuesday.  Many congratulations to them, what an accomplishment!  We took them and their families for a great view of the Navy Cruiser Gettysburg, anchored off of Annapolis. The crew kept busy today […]

Beautiful Day

We did 4 sails today with the wind starting out light in the morning on our first sail to blowing 10-12 knots for our sunset. This made for and exciting sail. During the day we did not sail to far away for the fear of having to start the motor to get home. But on […]

Weather forecasters, totally wrong!

Much to our enjoyment, the weather forecasts proved inaccurate today.   Hooray for sunshine and 15+ knots of southerly flow!   After sailing the paint off Woodwind II all day, we beam reached into the sunset over the Naval Academy- a blissful end to an big day of sailing.   As the sky warmed into some pink […]

Wednesday Night Racing, 5-23-12

Winds were light, 5-10 from East. Nearby thunderstorm forced Annapolis Yacht Club to cancel racing at 6:00pm, we waited until 6:35, and the radar looked all good. Woodwind was skippered by Jen, and Woodwind II by Captain Ken. Woodwind II had a private charter with 46 people, Woodwind was the public with 22 passengers. See […]

Ghosting Mahogany

Woodwind II celebrated the sunset ghosting through Weems Creek.  I was thankful for the idyllic presence of two great blue herons.  They took the edge off the sight of the algae bloom that has cursed Spa Creek lately.  If you live in the Chesapeake watershed, please do your part.  Save the Bay.

Sun Dog

Wwhhhhhhooooeeeee, there was a lot of athletic activity around Annapolis today!  The morning preparations aboard Woodwind  were accompanied by rock’n’roll tunes floating over Ego Alley from the Triathalon celebration.  That got us stoked for the forecasted southerlies and the day’s high pressure.  After getting underway, we were able to catch some of the racing action […]
