Hannah and the Roadside Show

Captain's Blog    No Comments

The title is somewhat misleading.  During our 1:30 cruise we had Hannah and her guests.  In the evening we had the duo, Roadside Show sing for our guests. Hannah worked for us several years ago and just recently got married to Abraham.  She and her extended family joined us sailing this Wednesday.  In the photo is …

Over 55 miles in one day

Captain's Blog    No Comments

What a day!  The wind started blowing from the SE at 10-15 and increased to over 22 knots by the 4:00 sail. We were lucky enough to have a 4.5 hour private charter for a day outing on the bay. We put just under 40 miles on the boat in just this cruise. We sailed …

Lighthouse Cruise on the Bay

Captain's Blog4 Comments

The cruise we had today was the re-named Blue Angels Cruise.  After the Blue Angels were canceled due to sequestration, we had many people signed up for this cruise. We changed the theme to a Lighthouse Cruise and asked them what they wanted to do, and many wanted to stay on the cruise. So, we …

It Didn’t Rain…..

Captain's Blog    No Comments

And it turned into a wonderful sailing day. I think the forecast scared everyone away. But it didn’t stop the Hannon family from Manassas. It turned into a private cruise. They were all gathered to celebrate Tim’s graduation from Virginia Tech. What a great way to spend the morning. We sailed out into the bay …

Boatspotting: Elf Classic Yacht Regatta and the Ocean Research Project’s R/V Ault

Captain's Blog    No Comments

The Woodwind crew, like most mariners, spend a lot of time on and around the water.  Actively and inactively, we engage in “boatspotting”, which I akin to the trainspotting hobby of railroad enthusiasts.  We geek out over boats and recognize them by their lines, sail plan, and routes.  This is a casual game of familiarity. …

Beer Tasting and traditional craft

Captain's Blog    No Comments

What could be better than sailing on Schooner Woodwind on a beautiful evening?  The answer for some would be, great sailing with a delicious beer from Flying Dog Brewery.  That’s why we had Ben, one of the brew-masters from Flying Dog join us. That’s Ben in the foreground with the gray hat.  Behind him to …

30+…..

Captain's Blog    No Comments

So there we were getting ready to do maintenance on the boat because we had no people signed up when up walked Bob and his brother Jim.” I’d Rather Be Sailing”, I think I’ve seen that bumper sticker somewhere. Well that was our attitude and off we went with just the 2 brothers. The winds …

Remembering what makes Annapolis special

Captain's Blog    No Comments

You’ve heard people say, “I never explore what’s in my own backyard”. Tonight, we took out many local, downtown businesses through the Annapolis Business Association and Bricks and Clicks organization for them to explore their own backyard. We had about 30 people join us for a two hour sunset sail to the Bay Bridge and …

Mother's Day on the Woodwind

Happy Mother’s Day….

Captain's Blog    No Comments

What a great way to spend the day. Bring your mom out for sailing and a nice brunch to boot. That is what everyone did yesterday. We had awesome sailing all day with winds from 15 to gusts of 30 knots. We sailed with only a reefed main and jib all day but the sailing …
